Full Moon in Aquarius: Liberation, Alignment & the Heart’s True Compass
August 9, 2025 – The Sturgeon Moon & Lion’s Gate Portal
The Full Moon in Aquarius rises inside the Lion’s Gate Portal, opening a gateway of liberation, clarity, and soul activation. On its own, a Full Moon is a time for release—letting go of what no longer serves your highest good. But this one is also lit by the Leo–Aquarius axis, asking us to stand in the middle of a powerful crosscurrent: heart and head, love and logic, self-expression and collective responsibility.
In Ifá, this balance is the cultivation of Iwa Pele—good and gentle character. Aquarius asks you to think clearly. Leo asks you to lead with heart. The lesson? Both must be strong if you’re to walk your path with power and grace.
Celestial Weather
🦁 Lion’s Gate Portal: The Sun in Leo aligns with Sirius, flooding the heart-space with courage and divine light. This is initiation energy—courage, truth, and spiritual activation.
📜 Mercury Retrograde in Leo (ending soon): Old thoughts, conversations, and truths have been stirring. This Full Moon brings a last wave of review before Mercury turns direct, offering clarity where there was confusion.
⚖️ Mars in Libra opposite Neptune retrograde in Aries: A foggy push–pull between action and uncertainty. One step forward, two steps back. The cure? Presence. Move only with intention.
🌕 Aquarius Moon + Leo Sun: Big revelations around relationships, community ties, and your own role in the collective. The places where you’ve been holding too tightly—or not at all—will become clear.
Vodou, Orisha, & Loa Currents
This Full Moon carries the cool, clear currents of Obatala and the quick, road-opening precision of Elegua/Papa Legba—guardians of clarity and right alignment. Obatala cools the head so wisdom can rise; Elegua ensures that what is revealed now is the truth you need to hear, even if it challenges you.
The Sun in Leo still walks with Chango, King of justice, thunder, and rightful pride. He calls you to stand tall in your truth, but warns against the arrogance that clouds judgment. Across from him, Aquarius’s airy detachment echoes the vision of Ogou Balendyo—strategic, disciplined, committed to the well-being of the greater whole. Together, these forces say: Your courage means nothing if it’s not in service to something bigger than yourself.
And beneath it all, Olokun and Agwe stir, urging release of what’s been festering unseen. Olokun moves in the shadowy, mysterious depths, where the oldest truths and buried emotions dwell. Agwe navigates the open waters, charting a course toward safe passage and clear horizons. Together, they bring both the cleansing tide and the map forward—mirroring Aquarius’s gift of future vision. This Moon asks you to trust the currents, release the dead weight, and steer toward waters that nourish your spirit.
Lessons of the Frame
The Moon may stir feelings you’ve been avoiding. The Sun may tempt you to act on impulse. But the path of Iwa Pele—good character—demands that you:
- Pause before acting or speaking.
- Test your choices against both head and heart.
- Ask: Does this honor my spirit and the spirits who walk with me?
Ritual Work & Offerings
💧 Cleanse: Bathe or smudge with cool herbs (hierba buena, basil, white flowers) to call Obatala’s clarity.
🕯 Petition: Light a white candle for Elegua/Papa Legba, asking for open and honest roads forward.
🔥 Release: Write down what patterns, attachments, or fears you’re releasing. Burn or bury them under the moonlight.
⚖️ Balance: Place a red candle (Shango) and a blue/white cloth (Obatala) on your altar—inviting harmony between passion and peace.
What This Moon Asks of You
This Aquarius Full Moon is both mirror and door. It reflects the truths you’ve been avoiding and opens a path to a higher, freer version of yourself. It is not always comfortable, but it is always necessary.
Walk with courage. Walk with clarity. Walk with the heart and the head as equals.
In truth, in fire, and in service to Spirit,
Mambo Jae Ashé
