Today, we also celebrate the feast day of the mighty orisha Ogun (Oggún, Ogoun, Ogum, Gu, or Ogou), the "god of iron", metal, metal work, technology, drivers, and rum. In his various manifestations, he is also a warrior, associated with war, truth, and justice.
Ogun, is both a popular and feared god in the Yoruba pantheon, standing as the guardian who executes the repercussions of actions. However, when called on, Ogun comes to the plight of his followers, blessing and protecting them.
Ogun controls much of the material in the earth, representing primitive force and energy. Alongside of his destructive nature, Ogun is known for his creativity, which amounts to the misunderstood nature of his aura.
Revered for his powerful energy and ability to overcome challenges, Ogun’s association with iron is seen as symbolic of his ability to cut through obstacles and forge a path forward.
To truly know Ogun is to know he is the master of owning oneself and stepping into your personal power. He assists us in fulfilling our purpose in life and understanding our position and role, in letting go of what the human brain and understanding cannot fathom by scientific understanding and reasoning.
Synchronized with Archangel Saint Michael, Ogun can also be called upon to assist with exorcism and dispelling negative energy.
