Today, we celebrate the feast day of Oshun Ololodi. Ololodi is the revolutionary and warrior path of Oshun that tells the stories of a woman on the battlefield who is never defeated and a mother who doesn’t rest until her children are happy.
Representing the life of a dedicated wife who fights to keep her family together, Oshun Olodi exalts women who do not give up and believe that fear is the worst excuse for not not continuing to fight to actualize their dreams - Ololodi embodies the indestructible woman.
In Santeria and similar syncretic traditions, Oshun Ololodi is synchronized with Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Queen of Mexico & Latin America. Our Lady of Guadalupe is also revered as one of the three Black Madonnas in Spain. She is among the most beloved and revered manifestations of the Virgin Mary and possibly the most famous of all Marian Apparitions.
Like Oshun, the Black Madonna is known for being miraculous and compassionate. She is seen as an active saint who regularly grants prayers and generally changes the lives of her worshippers for the better.
