Baronessa, also known as Maman Brigitte, is the formidable female ruler of the cemetery in Dominican Vudú (Las 21 Divisiones). As the devoted wife and counterpart of Barón del Cementerio, she shares authority over the realm of the dead, presiding alongside him over the Guede (Black) Division. Fierce, unwavering, and deeply protective, Baronessa stands as both guardian of the cemetery gates and caretaker of the souls entrusted to her domain.

Devotees honor Baronessa for her strength in times of transformation, her powerful protection against harmful influences, and her ability to aid in healing and the breaking of spiritual obstacles. Traditionally served with offerings such as black tobacco, spicy foods, black coffee, and dark rum, she is revered as a loving yet uncompromising force who reminds us that every ending gives way to a new beginning. Through Dominican Catholic syncretism, she is often associated with Saint Brigid, reflecting her role as a guardian who walks with both compassion and formidable resolve.
