In many diasporic Vodou traditions, Damballah is syncretized with Saint Patrick, the Catholic saint often depicted driving snakes from Ireland—a symbolic overlap with Damballah’s serpent form and divine power over creation and transformation.

Saint Patrick’s imagery also invokes Damballah’s role as a protector and force of evolution, reminding us to shed what no longer serves and align with our higher path.
