About Eleguá – The Orisha of Crossroads & Destiny

Elegua is one of the most important Orishas in Yoruba-based traditions, known as the guardian of crossroads, doors, and new opportunities. He is the divine messenger who holds the keys to fate, opening and closing paths in both the physical and spiritual worlds.

As a trickster and guide, Elegua teaches lessons through unexpected turns, ensuring that every choice leads to growth. He is also a protector of travelers, businesses, and homes, bringing luck, prosperity, and clarity to those who honor him.

Elegua is traditionally associated with red and black colors and is often honored with offerings of candy, rum, cigars, and small toys to gain his favor. Devotees seek his blessings when making important decisions, starting new ventures, or removing obstacles from their path.

Without Eleguá, nothing moves—he must always be acknowledged first, for he is the one who opens the way.

Eleguá (Legba) is also known as Èsù-Ẹlẹ́gbára in the Yoruba religion, Elegua is closely associated with Eshu, and as Elegbara is Exu in Afro-Brazilian religion.
