Isis, one of the most important goddesses of ancient Egypt, her name literally translating to “throne.” 

Isis is principal deity in rites connected with the dead, believed to protect them and assist in their entry to the afterlife. Known to be magical healer, Isis cured the sick and brought the deceased to life. Isis is also regarded as a protector, a mother, and a role model for women, her maternal aid frequently invoked in healing spells, but her chief aspect was that of a great magician, whose power transcended that of all other deities. Several narratives tell of her magical prowess, far stronger than the powers of Re and Osiris. Like other fierce goddesses in the Egyptian pantheon, Isis became known as the “Eye of Re” and is equated with the Dog Star, Sothis (Sirius).
