Ezili names a family of freshwater spirits from Dahomey who are now among the most powerful and significant female spirits of Haitian Vodou. The Ezilis are beautiful snake-women spirits, similar to Mami Wata.

Originally, there was only one African snake spirit named Ezili. She is one spirit possessing multiple personalities. In modern day, Ezili is thought of as sisters with different destinies. Ezili Freda, the sister who became a courtesan, and Ezili Dantor, who became a revolutionary, or perceive all the Ezilis to be aspects of Ezili Freda Dahomey.

Erzulie Dantor, also known as Mami Dantò, is a powerful and protective mother figure in the Vodou tradition. She symbolizes justice, and as a single mother, Erzulie Dantor is fiercely independent and will forcefully fight to protect her loyal followers, who are her children.

Ezilis are the spirits of wealth, abundance, beauty, and fertility, who can also bring death.
