Orisha Oya Collares Elekes
Oya is the powerful orisha of winds, storms, and transformation in the Yoruba religion and its diasporic traditions such as Santería and Candomblé. She governs over the winds of change, tornadoes, and lightning, symbolizing both destruction and renewal. As the guardian of the cemetery gates, Oya is closely associated with the spirit world and the cycle of life and death.
Oya embodies fierce independence, courage, and the strength to overcome obstacles, making her a patron of warriors, business owners, and those facing major life transitions. She is often depicted wielding a machete or whip, representing her ability to cut away what no longer serves and clear paths for growth.
In spiritual practice, invoking Oya’s energy can aid in breaking through stagnation, fostering personal transformation, and navigating difficult changes with resilience and grace.
