Santa Barbara Africana Statue (12") Saint Barbara
Synchronized with Erzulie Dantor, Santa Barbara Africana's feast day is December 4. Santa Barbara is known in the Eastern Orthodox Church as the Great Martyr Barbara, was an early Christian saint and martyr. Accounts place her in the 3rd century in Nicomedia, present-day Turkey or in Heliopolis of Phoenicia, present-day Baalbek, Lebanon. There is no reference to her neither in the authentic early Christian writings nor in the original recension of Saint Jerome’s martyrology. Her name can be traced to the 7th century, and veneration of her was common, especially in the East, from the 9th century.
Erzulie Dantor, also known as Mami Dantò, is a powerful and protective mother figure in the Vodou tradition. She symbolizes justice, and as a single mother, Erzulie Dantor is fiercely independent and will forcefully fight to protect her loyal followers, who are her children.
